Preschool and Childcare Administration

Persons following the Preschool and Childcare Administration degree concentration may seek careers in the administration of early childhood programs including child care centers, both for-profit and nonprofit; private and public prekindergarten programs; Head Start; preschools; parents' day out programs; before and after school care; and centers for children with special needs. It also serves persons with experience in childcare settings from a wide variety of backgrounds, including childcare volunteers and aides, as well as teachers and directors. In addition to the core content of early childhood professional knowledge, the concentration contains coursework to develop skills in fiscal management, recruiting and hiring personnel, health and safety management, board relations, marketing and public relations, and liaison with professional associations and regulatory agencies.

Note:  Students interested in receiving an Early Childhood teacher license (prekindergarten through third grade) should pursue a major in Human Development and Learning with a concentration in Early Childhood Education; this major is offered by the Department of Instruction and Curriculum Leadership, College of Education. This program does NOT lead to Teacher Licensure
