WELCOME TO UNIVERSITY COLLEGE. As dean of the college, I am pleased to introduce you to our
interdisciplinary college. The name, University College, is used because most of the courses
are taken from other departments and programs within the University that are then grouped together
to form interdisciplinary degree programs.
University College was created in 1975. Its mission is to provide interdisciplinary educational opportunities primarily
to nontraditional, adult students. The college provides an entry point for students, an innovator of new programs, a catalyst
for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary efforts throughout the campus, and a facilitator for the community to interact with the University.
We seek to provide access to quality educational programs and services for a diverse community of learners
who seek change through increased knowledge and skill.
The college attempts to be flexible, relevant, and responsive in providing professional as well as liberal education to adults.
We offer two bachelor degrees: Bachelor of Liberal Studies and the Bachelor of Professional Studies. We also have three master
degree programs: Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, Master of Professional Studies, and the Master of Science in Family & Consumer Studies.
University College offers programs in formats tailored to the busy schedules of adult, non-traditional students.
Courses are offered in the evenings, on weekends, and online. You can develop your own major or participate in one of
about 25 undergraduate guideline programs. At the graduate level we also have the ability to create your own emphases within
our Master of Arts in Liberal Studies degree. Our Master of Professional Studies program provides a completely online program
with a strategic leadership emphasis.
We have 1,300 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students pursuing degrees. The average University College student is 30-35
years old. Females account for 75 percent of our enrollment.
University College is an interdisciplinary college where students can develop their own majors or work within existing interdisciplinary
majors. You can also get credit for experiential learning where applicable for some life experiences in the workplace.
We invite you to look through our website. Please contact us for more information on how you can be involved as an adult learner in
one of the many programs in University College.
